VITEBSK, 16 August (BelTA) – The Belarusian Book Printing Museum, an affiliate of the National Polotsk Historical and Cultural Museum Reserve, will take part in the Belarusian Written Language Day in Glubokoye, chief of the Belarusian Book Printing Museum Yelena Shumovich said. This year Polotsk will mark its 1,150th anniversary; therefore, the museum is going to arrange an off-site exhibition “Polotsk in the book culture of Belarus”. The exhibition will feature hand-written books, folios of Francysk Skorina and Simeon Budny, modern-day publications of the series “Polotsk Heritage” and books dedicated to the 1,150th anniversary of Polotsk. The Belarusian Book Printing Museum is a regular participant of the Written Language Day events and often holds off-site exhibitions. This year, the museum will arrange an exhibition of facsimile editions from the holdings of the National Polotsk Historical and Cultural Museum Reserve. The exhibition will open on 1 September. The Belarusian Book Printing Museum is one of the eleven museums of the National Polotsk Historical and Cultural Museum Reserve. The museum is located in the former school of the Polotsk Epiphany Monastery, an architectural monument of the 18th century. The museum was founded on 8 September 1990. That year Belarus marked the 500th anniversary of the birth of the first Belarusian and eastern European book printer Francysk Skorina. The museum is dedicated to books, from first hand-written scrolls to modern publications, the history of the written language, book printing, book illustrations, and writing utensils. It is the only museum of this kind in Belarus.
