Glubokoye gearing up to host Belarusian Written Language Day

VITEBSK, 10 August (BelTA) - About a hundred facilities in the town of Glubokoye and Glubokoye District will undergo a facelift in the run-up to the Belarusian Written Language Day, BelTA learnt from Deputy Chairperson of the Glubokoye District Executive Committee, Galina Unukovich. A significant number of social facilities will be refurbished as part of preparations for the feast. The list includes the town culture center, I. Bujnitski culture center with a theater hall, historical-ethnographic museum, the children's school of arts, the building of the former library. Work on the town’s first fountain is nearing completion. As noted by Galina Unukovich, local businessmen are also actively involved in upgrading their private stores. Eight busts of famous natives of Glubokoye District will be erected in the park near 17 September Square. Among them are the names known around the world: aircraft designer Pavel Sukhoi, folklorist and artist Yazep Drozdovich, Eliezer Ben-Yehuda who is known for revival of spoken Hebrew, the founder of the Belarusian theater Ignatius Bujnitski. Dormitories of the Glubokoye state vocational school of agriculture, district gymnasium and schools No. 2 and No. 3 are undergoing renovations as well. Reconstruction of the third phase of the City Stadium and the Central District Outpatient Department is in full swing. Catering facilities are also gearing up to welcome guests. At its meeting on 9 August the local organizing committee for the Belarusian Written Language Day decided to accelerate construction and repair works and hire additional personnel for local construction companies. The draft program for the Belarusian Written Language Day has been drafted, and is pending approval. Of 18 Belarusian Written Language Days held in Belarus, Vitebsk Oblast has hosted four of them. The first one was Polotsk. Glubokoye is the fifth town to be hosting the holiday.
