Vitebsk Oblast to participate in EU technical assistance project “Neighbor's Road”

VITEBSK, 12 October (BelTA) – The EU technical assistance project “Neighbor's Road” will be implemented in Vitebsk Oblast. Members of the Vitebsk regional council of deputies passed a decision on its co-funding, BelTA has learnt. The project provides for the improvement of the road network infrastructure in the area of the Belarusian-Latvian border section, namely on the Kaplava-Plyusy roadway, Vice-Chairman of the Economy Committee of the Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee Konstantin Cherny said at an extraordinary session of the local parliament. There are plans to extend the roadway, construct temporary parking lots. The length of the reconstructed section on the Belarusian side will be 1.5 km. In accordance with the technical assistance project terms, Vitebsk Oblast will assume 10% of the financial costs; the remainder will be paid by the EU. The project is much needed. With the entry into force of the Belarusian-Latvian agreement on simplified border crossing by residents of the frontier regions, the flow of people moving through the crossing points has considerably increased.
