Francophone Days in Belarus on 5-30 March

Belarus will host a variety of events to celebrate the Francophone Days on 5-30 March, BelTA learned from the French Embassy in Minsk.

The International Francophonie Day marked on 20 March is aimed at celebrating the French language and Francophone cultures around the world. This year Minskers will have an opportunity to attend the events dedicated to gastronomy, theater, music, photography, architecture and cinema, the diplomatic mission said.

The Francophone Days will be organized by the French Embassy in Belarus with the support of the Equilibrium Arts concert agency, the Office of the Embassy of Switzerland in Minsk, the Canadian Embassy in Poland, the school of architectural thinking for children, the Belarusian Philharmonic Society, Minsk State Linguistic University and others.

The events will start on 5 March with a concert of the French group Le Bal des Martinne.

The photo exhibition "Voyage en Francophonie" will open on the same day in the visa hall of the Embassy of France in Minsk. It will stay open till 28 March. The exhibition will feature the photographs by the young Frenchman Florian Karoubi, a UNESCO volunteer in Belarus, made during his many trips.

A concert of the Belarusian State Chamber Orchestra under the baton of Evgeny Bushkov featuring famous violinist Nicolas Dautricourt (France) and cellist Michael Samsonov (Belarus-Germany) will take place in the Belarusian State Philharmonic on 10 March. During this joint concert Nicolas Dautricourt will play the pieces by Beethoven, Ysaye and Haydn. The violinist currently plays a magnificent instrument by Antonio Stradivarius (Cremona, 1713), the "Chateau Fombrauge", on a generous loan from Bernard Magrez.

Then on 14 March the Days will continue with the screening of the Swiss documentary "Cyclique" in the Pioner cinema house.

French pianist Olivier Moulin will give a concert at the Brest Philharmonic on 20 March.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of France to Belarus Didier Canesse is expected to meet with Minsk students to discuss the topical issues in the French language.

The City History Museum will host the photo exhibition "Regard" on 21 March. The French Dinner event as part the Taste of France series will be held in Belarus for the fourth time. This year, fifteen Belarusian restaurants (14 in Minsk and one in Gomel) and a culinary school will join the event. The Taste of France event in Belarus will be opened by Didier Canesse. Guests will also be invited to attend a French cuisine master class.

The French Media Library will host a quiz on Francophonie on 23 March. It is organized for French-learning high school students of Minsk. The quiz will include questions about the French language, with a special emphasis attached to regional French expressions.

A gala concert to mark the Francophone Days is scheduled for 28 March at the Minsk State Linguistic University. The event will welcome school students, their parents, teachers of French in Belarusian schools, and also all those who speak French. About fifty children and students will present their skills on stage. They will come from different regions to show a performance they were working on for a year. The organizers say that the event may be attended by embassy representatives from Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova, Switzerland, Armenia, and Greece. Winners of the contest "Young Writer in French" will be honored in an awards ceremony. These events will be held in cooperation with the Association of Teachers of French and the French Embassy.

The French Media Library will also host a number of events as part of the Francophone Days on 29 March.
