China and Belarus are friendly partners in humanitarian affairs, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to Belarus Xie Xiaoyong said in an interview with BelTA in the run-up to the state visit of the highest-level Belarusian delegation to Beijing.

“Humanitarian exchanges between our countries are getting more frequent,” the diplomat said. “The exchange of students has increased considerably: today more than 7,000 Chinese students study in Belarus, and hundreds of Belarusian students study in China.” 

Both countries have set up cultural centers of each other in their capitals. China has opened six Confucius institutes and two Confucius classes in Belarus. Chinese language is very popular in Belarus. 

Xie Xiaoyong also said that the Merry Spring Festival event was held in Belarus for the ninth time, and the Chinese New Year is becoming increasingly popular with Belarusians. 

China and Belarus have jointly held such events as the Year of Tourism and the Year of Education, Days of Culture, cinema weeks, and photo exhibitions, which, according to the ambassador, strengthen the emotional ties between the Chinese and Belarusian peoples.
