Belarus calls for uniform approaches to cybercrime counteraction at BRICS forum

State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus Aleksandr Volfovich took part in the 13th international meeting of high representatives on security matters of BRICS member states and partners in Johannesburg, South Africa on 24 July, the State Secretariat of the Security Council of Belarus told BelTA.

In his speech during the plenary session Aleksandr Volfovich drew attention to current risks and challenges in the sphere of cybersecurity. He mentioned Belarus' considerable experience of suppressing extremist manifestations that rely on Internet technologies. Aleksandr Volfovich also touched upon the matter of counteracting cybercrimes and protecting critical infrastructure.

The Belarusian side mentioned the topicality of the Belarus president's initiative to form a good neighborhood and digital sovereignty belt. In this connection proposals were put forward in favor of working out coordinated approaches within the framework of BRICS to counteracting threats and challenges in the cyberspace.

Apart from that, a number of bilateral meetings with heads of BRICS delegations took place on the sidelines of the forum. Current problems of global and regional security were discussed.
