Belarus presents national stand at Moscow Book Fair

Belarus, the guest of honor at the 36th Moscow International Book Fair, presented its national stand at this prestigious book forum on 31 August, BelTA has learned.

Opening the event, Belarusian Information Minister Vladimir Pertsov said that Belarusian-Russian cooperation in book publishing had a long tradition and was successfully developing. In his words, this year Russia was an guest of honor at the Minsk International Book Fair, and now the same honorary status was given to Belarus in Moscow.

According to the minister, Belarus brought to the Moscow forum more than 500 titles of books - the best examples of Belarusian book publishing: historical-documentary, children's, educational and fiction books. The concept of the national stand is based on the joint historical and educational project of the Belarusian Information Ministry and the Belarusian President's Award laureate Vladimir Likhodedov “Homeland. In Search of the Lost”. The project includes an exhibition of books (about 50 titles), a perpetual calendar of the same name, columns in the national and regional print media based on unique archive photos and postcards.

The Belarusian stand also features interactive “animation” of the photos. With the help of the AiB application, which can be downloaded to a cell phone, the visitors of the exhibition are given the opportunity to move from the photos of various corners of Belarus of the 19th - early 20th century to the present day.

The visitors are invited to attend presentations of Belarusian books, including the publishing project “Genocide of the Belarusian People”, prepared jointly with the General Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Belarus.

The minister presented the Federal National and Cultural Autonomy of Belarusians of Russia with a certificate for 2,000 titles of Belarusian printed books in order to popularize the Belarusian cultural heritage.

Bella Cherkesova, Deputy Minister of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media of Russia, called it a great honor to take part in the presentation of the Belarusian national stand. She stated that Belarusian books are very popular among Russian readers. “I am sure that the stand of the Republic of Belarus will become a decoration of the Moscow Book Fair,” the deputy minister emphasized.
