26.07.2023

Young people from other countries want to study at Belarusian universities, as it is prestigious, Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova told reporters following the meeting of the National Council of Rectors of Higher Education Institutions of the Republic of Belarus that was hosted by the Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics, BelTA has learned.

“It was a pleasure for me to take part in the work of the council that was established by the ordinance of the president. This is a community of heads of higher education institutions of our country. We discussed all kinds of issues,” said the head of the upper house of parliament.

“I wanted to meet with all the country's rectors to discuss issues related to higher education. Of course, learning a profession, a specialty is very important, but character education is no less important. We discussed these issues as well as development of the higher education system as a whole. We tried to build a better understanding of what specialties will be most in demand in the future,” Natalya Kochanova said.

The experts also discussed foreign students. “Indeed, every university has foreign students today. We, legislators, regularly meet with foreign ambassadors, go on business trips abroad. And many people say that young people from other countries want to study at our universities, Belarusian education is prestigious today. Therefore, it is necessary to tackle logistics issues (arranging flights to our country), some migration issues. We also discussed other issues that need to be dealt with promptly. It is still very important for legislators to implement the provisions of the Education Code and other laws that are in force in our country. And this feedback is very important,” she noted.
