Lukashenko: Life sets important, pressing tasks for us

16.02.2024

Life sets fundamental and pressing tasks, and it is important not to miss out on the historical moment amidst the generational change, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at a meeting with members of the National Council of Rectors of Higher Education Institutions on 13 February, BelTA has learned.

“The reality poses important and pressing questions to you and me. You are smart people, scientists with academic degrees; you understand the scope of your responsibility and the importance of this historical moment. You know that we should not miss out on it as we are going through the generational change. A third of a century ago we were on the brink of the abyss and we managed to stay on the road that our ancestors paved. Look at those who turned off this road - the Baltic states, Ukraine and others. Their industry and agriculture are in ruins. Who do they train their personnel for? It’s clear: for those countries that give them handouts to survive. This is their national idea. This is not our way,” the president said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko highlighted the demand for quality education using the example of Uzbekistan, where he had recently been to on an official visit. After all, along with new technologies, a country also needs trained personnel and specialists.

“Yet, we must not slow down under any circumstances. And we must not underestimate the challenges of today,” the president added.
