Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko touched upon the issue of salaries of personnel of the local executive committees as he considered personnel issues on 12 December. The head of state believes that one of the ways to increase salaries is to optimize personnel numbers while maintaining the existing payroll fund, BelTA has learned.

“As for salaries, I think you know my instructions very well,” the head of state said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko said that an approach had already been worked out to increase salaries while reducing the administrative staff. For example, if you reduce the number of employees of a district executive committee from 70 to 40 people, the freed money will still remain at the disposal of a district committee. “In the current situation, we can have half of of the staff of a district executive committee by improving executive and technological discipline. I think a district administration can do with a 45-strong team. You divide the payroll fund as you see fit among the rest. With the economy developing, we will be able to add something more from the budget,” the president said.

“This does not pertain to government officials only. A decision has been recently made to raise salaries for all state employees: teachers, doctors, the military, and so on,” said the Belarusian leader.

Aleksandr Lukashenko once again urged to see how many people a particular district executive committee or a city executive committee needs. "Don't keep excess numbers. The payroll fund you had at the time when I made the decision will remain intact,” the head of state assured. “No one will take this money away or steal it. I guarantee you that."

The president proposed to place the freed personnel into other responsible positions, for example, in agriculture. "Listen, in my time it was an incredible honor to get reappointed from a district party committee or from a district executive committee to the post of director of a state farm or the chairman of a collective farm," he said. "Well, if they work well in a district executive committee, they might try their hand elsewhere."

The head of state noted that in recent years, due to consolidation and optimization, the number of farms has also decreased. This process will continue. "Because large-scale commodity farms do better. Therefore, optimization will continue. We should not enforce it. We will proceed with this where things are ripe," Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
