The training of drivers and the observance of traffic rules will be sorted out soon. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the statement while talking to reporters on 25 February, BelTA has learned. The conversation touched upon two serious traffic accidents, which happened on Belarusian roads not so long ago.

Aleksandr Lukashenko said: “I am up-to-date. We will soon analyze this topic. I am concerned about it, particularly about private bus companies. I gave instructions (a group is working, the state secretary is working with the Cabinet) to put together reports about what is really happening with regard to discipline and the behavior of drivers on Belarusian roads.”

The president pointed out it is important to observe traffic rules and driver training is the primary concern. “We have questions starting with driver training, the technical state [of vehicles] and ending with discipline on the roads. We will soon analyze these matters,” Aleksandr Lukashenko added.

In his words, people responsible are now carefully looking into the situation and prefer not making premature public statements. “We are analyzing the situation calmly and quietly in order to get to the bottom of things,” the president said.

A private bus crashed into a truck head-on in Smolevichi District, Minsk Oblast on 20 February. As many as 11 people died in the traffic accident and nearly as many were injured. Another traffic accident involving a private bus and a tractor happened outside Bobruisk the other day.
