Belarus emphasizes importance of cyber security for adoption of new technologies

It is impossible to introduce new technologies without ensuring cyber security. Belarusian Communications and Informatization Minister Konstantin Shulgan mentioned it during the joint 59th session of the Board of Communications Administrations Heads of the Regional Commonwealth in the Field of Communications (RCC) and the Coordination Council for Informatization under the Regional Commonwealth in the Field of Communications in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, BelTA has learned.

Participants of the session are expected to discuss topical aspects of cooperation in the field of communications and informatization. Plans have been made to consider a number of matters concerning further advancement of regional and international cooperation in this field within the framework of the Regional Commonwealth in the Field of Communications.

Konstantin Shulgan said: “It is a scheduled event. Items that determine the future development of communications and informatization in the RCC countries are on the agenda. The spectrum of matters to be discussed is broad and includes discussions about summarizing and informative reports, which were considered during the previous session. Apart from that, we will discuss preparations for international events, in particular, the Global Communications Conference.”

Speaking about cyber security, the communications and informatization minister noted that it is one of the main areas of work in addition to digitization. “New technologies cannot be introduced in any field without ensuring cyber security. Cyber security is the component that allows ordinary users to enjoy all the services safely and comfortably. This work cannot be static because the cyber security system gets constantly enhanced taking into account new challenges and threats,” he stressed.

The Board of Communications Administrations Heads of the Regional Commonwealth in the Field of Communications (RCC) is the RCC's supreme body. Sessions of the board are held when necessary but at least once a year. Participants of the sessions discuss and make coordinated decisions on the main areas of work. Belarus' Communications and Informatization Ministry has been a full member of the RCC since 1991 and a member of the Coordination Council for Informatization under the Regional Commonwealth in the Field of Communications since 2002.
