PM comments on preparations for celebration of 80th anniversary of Belarus’ liberation

Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko convened a meeting of the national organizing committee for the preparation and celebration of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from Nazi invaders and the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War, BelTA has learned.

"This year we will celebrate the 80th anniversary of the liberation of our country from the Nazi invaders. At the previous meeting of the organizing committee, we sketched out the main areas of work and set the tasks. Today we need to look into a number of important issues; one of the main ones is the venue for the 3 July military parade. We need to decide on the options and submit them to the president to make a final choice," Roman Golovchenko said.

The second item on the agenda is the honoring of cities and communities with the title “For courage and perseverance during the Great Patriotic War”.

"The draft decree on the award has been submitted to the president for consideration. 21 communities have been selected. The head suggested revising the list and possibly reducing it and determining the timing of the award," the prime minister said.

Approaches to the organization of cultural events to mark the anniversaries need to be discussed as well.

"Another item on the agenda is the logo of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus, which will be mounted at all public events and in the media. It will be a key element in the design of public places involved in the celebrations," the head of government added.
