Lukashenko sends Unity Day greetings to German people

Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko has extended greetings to the people of the Federal Republic of Germany as the country celebrates Unity Day, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian leader.

The head of state noted that the unification of Germany in 1990 became possible thanks to the atmosphere of trust and constructive cooperation between the countries of the continent.

“The transition from confrontation to dialogue required all parties to make courageous, strategic decisions. Unfortunately, the European Union is now pursuing a non-self-sustaining policy of confrontation towards a number of sovereign states. Brussels' only tool is unilateral measures of economic and political pressure, which directly contradict international law,” the president said.

According to Aleksandr Lukashenko, official Berlin's support of such a course is detrimental and absolutely inconsistent with the hopes of the two peoples and causes deep disappointment and justified rejection in Belarus, especially in view of the terrible events and numerous victims on the Belarusian soil during the Second World War.

“100 years after the establishment of diplomatic relations, Belarus, as before, is ready to develop cooperation with Germany on the basis of the principles of equality and mutual respect. This will also contribute to strengthening regional security and stability,” the message of greetings reads.

The head of state wished the German people peace and confidence in the future.
